Simplicity 7258 A dress in review:)

 Ahhhh, patterns.....

This is one I picked up (FREE:). The material came from GMO's ( my grandma) stash I inherited!  FREE+FREE=Good4Me....GRIN!

I  really  like the empire waistline of these dresses. I pretend  ummm believe they make me appear taller. Not that I am short at 5'6" (except in my family, then I'm the runt:) I choose View #2 to try. It looks to be the easiest of the 3 "Easy to Sew" options!  This truly meets the "Labor of Love" criteria!  I couldn't begin to count how many times I had to make use of my trusty lil' seam ripper. (I have heard only a real seamstress trusts that particular tool...hahaha) I, AGAIN, had to learn the hard way that those pattern "markings" actually HELP! And then there were the parts I had to redo, CAUSE THEY JUST DIDN'T WORK!!!!  (hmmmph, Can YOU say facing is YOUR friend????)  I actually have b4 and after pics of my dress.....
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this print. The leaves are a greeny gold color   (PuHleeze don't try to find that on the color wheel:) The print is a polyester? and the solid is a cotton or cotton blend??  and is a heavier weight than the print. but I love the combo....I do NOT however love how these sleeves ended up, even more so when I actually tried it on! The neckline was almost choking me, too!!  Maybe I just love HACKING things up???? Does anyone know of a  PATTERN THERAPIST I could speak to?

SOOO, I hacked  rePositioned the sleeve ends and neckline
AND this is where I ended up....

This is my fave pic....SEE MY SUPER MOMMY speed???
And YES that's Goose trying to drag a chair over so SHE can get in on the photos:)

All in all, I have to say that this pattern is one I'll be trying again......
WITHOUT the stinkin facing!

  2. Just hang in there Denise. You learn as you sew. The more things you make, the better you will get. You've done a great job on the dress!

    Thanks for the sweet comment!

  4. The dress looks great! I wish I could sew, it would be so much easier to make my own clothes than try to find ones that fit right in the store
